Awesome! Very functional, super easy to use, no pre heat so cook time is faster, and it looks cool. Only downside is that it doesn’t hold a whole lot of food in it so it mostly serves about 2-3 servings in one go.
My airfryer is getting old, so I ordered the ASTRALSHIP 2-in-1 Glass Air Fryer & Grill Pan Combo.
As always, I first read the manual. Welp. It's practically worthless—we couldn't make sense of most of the instructions. There are so many weird mistranslations, like the section called "was first used before." Alarming, no? That we may have gotten a used item? But no. We figured out they meant to say "wash before first use." And another: 'In air fryer mode, when the sound of "drip", "drop" and "drip" is finished, the heater stops working, but its fan will continue to work for 1 minute to reduce the internal center temperature.' Even after figuring out most of the strange phrasings and misspellings, the manual still didn't explain the features or how to use the air fryer or grill pan. We never did hear "drip" "drop" and "drip."
But we forged ahead and took the air fryer out of its box. It looks nice. If I had more room, I'd keep it on the counter top instead of in a cabinet. We love the glass frying drawer! It is very thick and strong, and we can see the items cooking inside. LOVE. And no worries about non-stick coating flaking off and poisoning us. The drawer pan doesn't click into place like our old af, so it took a moment to get used to it not being as finicky—just slide it in and it's ready. The front panel's buttons are easy to read: several presets, temp/time increase and decrease, power. It comes with a large silicone trivet that will get a lot of use even when the air fryer isn't being used.
We first boiled water in cooker mode (it was called several different things in the manual, but "cooker mode" was one). The top of the af (air fryer, not the "af" of current slang hahaha) flips over so that the heating element is on top. It comes with a square nonstick pan with a glass lid, and it fits perfectly there. We filled the pan with water, put it on the heating element, set the temp to its highest, and... after 40 or so seconds, the af turned off. ah ha! then we figured out one of the nonsensical sentences in the manual: after choosing our settings, we need to touch the on/off/menu button again to start it. It took 7.5 minutes to boil our pan of water. We think the only time we'd use this feature would be if our stove went out or if we lived in a dorm room or maybe if we took it on an RV trip, but it's a nice feature if you need it.
On to the main event: air frying. The glass drawer doesn't have another interior drawer with lots of holes like our old af. Instead, the bottom of the drawer has ridges at the corners and comes with a metal grid (think like a cooling rack) that sits atop them. We worried there wouldn't be adequate air flow around it, but we shouldn't have. We didn't have a lot of time, but we were so excited to try it that we decided to test it with frozen convenience foods. We saved a lot of time peeling, cutting, and soaking potatoes by using frozen french fries. I wanted to do a single layer, but we poured them in until the glass drawer was about 1/3 full. It was exciting to actually see them begin to brown and crisp! They came out excellent, even though we forgot to shake halfway through.
Then, because it had worked so well, we decided to try a few other things. We tried some frozen chicken nuggets (real chicken breast bits that are breaded, not the "chicken loaf" nuggets at fast food places), which were uniformly crisp at 10-12 minutes (less than the package's af directions). Then we remembered we had frozen egg rolls, which were wonderful after 10 minutes at 350. Well, we couldn't stop there. We af'd a teriyaki skinless chicken thigh, and OH MY GOSH. The glaze carmelized and got gooey and a bit crispy, while the chicken remained tender. (We checked the internal temp to determine when it was done, and we got so excited that we forgot to record how long it took.)
This air fryer is awesome. But it is on the smaller side. Fine for a family of two or three... unless some of those are teenagers... you might need to cook in batches, but other than that, I can't think of any negatives about this air fryer. (Except the manual. Absolute trash.)
Cooks frozen pizza in minutes—crispy crust, melty cheese. Tastes better than delivery, and I save money. So happy with this purchase.
I live alone, and it cooks just enough for one—no leftovers, no waste. So convenient for single-person meals.
I used to use deep-frying all the time. Later, for health reasons, I bought an air fryer, but I always felt uneasy about the non-stick coating. I switched to this type of glass and fell in love with it after just one use! Glass material is not only safe and non-toxic, but also super easy to clean!
